Delete everything

Deleting is free, it needs no reason, and it is not something we will try to talk you out of. It is also permanent — there is no recovery period and no copy kept.

There is no account to delete. Candela has no sign-up, no email, no password and no identifier of ours. Your journal is not on any server we run, so there is nothing for us to erase on your behalf — which is why every step below happens on your own device.

One exception, and only if you opted in. From version 1.2 on Android, if you switched on usage counts in Settings, anonymous counts sit with Google Analytics for Firebase — never a word you wrote, never a title, never a mood. Turning the switch off stops the sending and clears what was gathered, and step 4 below erases it too. If you would rather ask us, write to the support address and say so; we can delete it from our side.

If you are looking for this page because a store told you an app must offer account deletion: that requirement applies to apps that create accounts. This one does not — on either platform.

From inside the app

This is the complete way, and it takes effect immediately.

Open Candela.
Go to the Settings tab.
Tap Privacy & data.
Tap Delete everything and type DELETE to confirm.
If your journal has no lock on it, the app asks for the phone's own unlock — Face ID or passcode on iOS, fingerprint or face unlock on Android — as well. Typing DELETE only proves you can read English.

On iOS the app tells you before you confirm whether it is erasing one place or two — the phone alone, or the phone and your iCloud copy. On Android it is always one place, because there is no cloud copy to erase.

Export first if you want to keep anything

There is no undo. Before you delete, you can take everything with you: Settings → Privacy & data → Export entire journal. That gives you one readable file, and it stays free whether or not you have bought the app.

What gets deleted

Every journal entry, including its title and mood.
Every photo, handwritten drawing and attached file.
Every plan on your calendar.
Every voice recording, and its transcript.
Your PIN, and any lock you had set.
On iOS, the copy in your iCloud, if you had that switched on. On Android there is never one.

What does not get deleted

Anything you exported or backed up yourself. Those files are on your device or wherever you sent them, and they are out of our hands — and out of the app's.
Your purchase. It belongs to the store account that made it — your Apple Account or your Google account — not to us, and we never see it. Install Candela again on that same account, tap Restore, and it is still yours; you do not pay twice.

If you cannot get into the app

iOS, forgotten PIN, iCloud switched on: the app can let you set a new one after you unlock with the phone's own Face ID or passcode. See Support. If you would rather not go back in at all, install Candela on any phone signed in to the same Apple Account, switch iCloud on, and use Delete everything — or remove the copy directly in Settings → iCloud → Remove the copy from iCloud.

iOS with iCloud off, or Android, or a lost phone: deleting the app from the phone removes the journal on it. On Android that is the whole of it — the app is deliberately kept out of Android's automatic backup and out of the phone-to-phone transfer, so uninstalling leaves nothing behind anywhere.

We cannot do any of this for you. Not as a policy — we simply never had your journal, and we have no way to reach it.
